The Department of Conservation located in Manners St in the Wellington CBD grew from an old cinema complex and the lower floors of the neighbouring office tower. This building was the first in New Zealand to use a doubled skin facade, and is one of the most energy efficient buildings in Australasia.
This included installing a new Air Conditioning system in the form of Halton chilled beam technology. Two types of active beams were used in DoC Building, open and in ceiling units. The beams provide both heating and cooling. According to the client, there has been very considerable energy savings.
